World Surf League Qualifying Series in Cabarete

This last weekend Cabarete once again reaffirmed its title of Surf and Wind Capital of the World when hosting the first Qualifying Series event of the World Surf League on the island. It was an outstanding opportunity to show the world Cabarete’s great swell conditions along with the beauty and splendor of our nature.

Over 96 athletes arrived from various countries to compete in Playa Encuentro from March 3 to 6, 2022. 15 local athletes represented the Dominican Republic in this competition too. Despite the tropical rain conditions during the last days of the event, a lot of spectators came to support the happening and enjoy the local vendor market and festive scene.

The joy of the crowd was even bigger when the local wildcard, proven QS veteran, Manuel Selman won the event title on home soil with a fairytale victory. This marks Selman’s first-ever victory, as well as Final appearance.

This type of events is especially beneficial for our town’s development for various reasons. First of all, it puts the name of Cabarete on the world’s surfing map and thus attracts more tourists to the area. Secondly, it gives local surfers a chance to compete with elite athletes from other countries and thus motivates them to train more and get to the next surfing level. And last but not the least, it gives the local youth hope and an alternative area in which they can develop and achieve success.

Special thanks to Carambola Surf House that powered and organized this event from the very beginning.

The last 2021 year was very challenging but at the same time productive for us. We completely renovated our restaurant’s kitchen, changed the stairs in all the buildings and recovered from the pandemic shutdown.

Despite all the challenges, we kept offering a great service to all our customers and guests. And the best proof of that is the two certificates of excellence that we received from Restaurant Guru and Sluurpy.

So we’d like to thank all our customers, guests and apartment owners for the continued support and understanding during all this exciting journey. And we hope you will continue with us in this new adventure 2022.

Christmas Season Has Arrived to Cabarete

This year Cabarete will be celebrating the holidays with new shine and glow. Apart from the new sidewalks being finished in the town, there is also a nice Christmas tree and light installation in front of Fresh Fresh Cafe and next to Helados Bon in the town center. It’s a great spot where families can take Christmas photos and get into the Christmas spirit. It adds joyfulness and conviviality to the town look.

At Velero Beach Resort, we also got ready for the holidays season. Look how we’ve decorated our lobby. What do you think? Do you like it?

Puerto Plata’s Second Cruise Terminal Opening

This week Puerto Plata has become the only town in the whole Caribbean with 2 functioning cruise ports.

The President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader led this Wednesday the inauguration of the new tourist and cargo terminal Taíno Bay in San Felipe de Puerto Plata with the arrival of a MSC boat with capacity for 5,000 cruise passengers. Although due to the COVID-19 protocols and security measures, it only brought about 1,700 passengers.
The Taino Bay terminal is part of a multipurpose project that will allow the docking of cruise ships, containers and the loading of products, which will make it one of the most attractive and active ports in the country. Taino Bay with an investment of more than 80 million dollars is part of the government initiatives.

During the inauguration of the terminal, President Luis Abinader reiterated his commitment and that of his government to generate more jobs and increase the arrival of tourists to the country. This terminal will generate 1,500 direct jobs and 3,500 indirect jobs.

Through the gates of this port terminal, it is projected to receive over 750 thousand cruise passengers by 2022, which will represent an average income of US $ 75 million. Among the carriers that have confirmed their routes are Royal Caribbean Cruises, Virgin Voyages, MSC Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, TUI Cruises, Celebrity Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises.

We’re very happy and proud of this new cruise terminal. And we hope it will give the local economy a necessary boost so much needed after the pandemic.
